Eastern Railway reports its highest-ever freight revenue of Rs 7,774.62 crore, marking a significant increase of 19.47% from the previous fiscal year.
The Eastern Railway, based in Kolkata, has marked a significant achievement by garnering its highest-ever freight revenue of Rs 7,774.62 crore during the financial year 2023–24. This figure represents a notable increase of 19.47 percent compared to the previous fiscal year, as confirmed by an official statement on Monday.
In addition to this remarkable freight revenue milestone, the zonal railway headquartered in Kolkata also witnessed a commendable growth of 8.91 percent in passenger revenue, amassing Rs 3,573.31 crore during the same fiscal period.
Moreover, Eastern Railway accomplished a freight loading of 86.87 metric tonnes in the financial year 2023–24, exhibiting a noteworthy increase of nine percent compared to the preceding fiscal year.
The surge in freight revenue to Rs 7,774.62 crore in the fiscal year 2023–24 reflects a robust growth trajectory, signifying a 19.47 percent upsurge from the previous fiscal year 2022–23, as highlighted by the official spokesperson.
Furthermore, the Eastern Railway attained another milestone by achieving its best-ever scrap sale revenue of Rs 479.98 crore in the recently concluded financial year. This accomplishment underscores the effective resource management and revenue optimisation strategies implemented by the zonal railway, showcasing its commitment to operational excellence and financial sustainability.
