Maersk, one of the world’s largest container shipping companies, has announced an increase in rates on its Far East Asia-North Europe trade lane. The rate hike, set to take effect on 31 July, will impact the carrier’s Freight All Kinds (FAK) rates for shipments from Asian main ports to the three key North European hubs of Rotterdam, Felixstowe, and Gdansk.
The new rates will be $1,025 per 20ft container and $1,900 per 40ft container. Maersk stated that the rate adjustment is necessary to ensure the continued provision of a broad range of high-quality services to its customers. The company also hinted that other routes within its network may also experience similar rate increases as it reassesses rate structures. This decision comes amidst a challenging market environment with falling spot rates and an ongoing oversupply situation on the Asia-North Europe trade lane.
