India and Bangladesh agree to enhance cooperation in infrastructure and operations at land ports to improve cross-border trade.
India and Bangladesh have committed to strengthening cooperation in improving infrastructure and operational efficiency at land ports along their 4,096 km-long border. This agreement was made during the 6th Subgroup meeting of the Land Port Authority of India (LPAI) and Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA), held on Tuesday.
The discussions focused on enhancing cross-border infrastructure, connectivity, and facilitating smoother trade between the nations. Key topics included the development of port facilities at Gede (West Bengal) and Bholaganj (Meghalaya), expediting Bangladesh’s export cargo clearance at Petrapole (West Bengal) and Agartala, and establishing integrated check-posts (ICPs).
Both sides also discussed improving the operational capacity of various ports, such as Sabroom (Tripura) and Burimari, to support trade with Nepal and Bhutan. The meeting aimed to further deepen India-Bangladesh relations and promote regional economic growth through collaborative border management.
