New linkage enables real-time cross-border transfers.

India and Nepal have launched a peer-to-peer cross-border remittance mechanism linking India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with Nepal’s National Payments Interface (NPI). Operational from June 6, 2026, the system enables users in both countries to make instant cross-border money transfers through mobile banking applications and digital wallets.
The integration was implemented through collaboration between NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India, and Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL). According to the government, the UPI-NPI linkage is intended to strengthen financial inclusion and support greater economic and digital connectivity between India and Nepal through accessible and secure cross-border payments.
