According to Union minister Nitin Gadkari, the government is planning to introduce a unified logistics law for all forms of freight transportation in order to eliminate duplication of effort and streamline formalities. For the expansion of the nation’s air cargo infrastructure, the minister of roads, transport, and highways recommended encouraging public-private partnerships.
To eliminate duplication of effort and streamline procedural requirements, the government is striving to introduce a single logistical law for all modalities of freight transportation. At the 12th DACAAI AGM, Gadkari stated, “This system would promote multi-modal transportation in the true sense. The minister emphasised that the government wants to reduce logistics costs from their present level of roughly 14% to 8%. He pointed out that in the domestic aviation market, air cargo share is very low and the challenges are many.
Aviation infrastructure should be developed using the latest technology. “If we can make aviation infrastructure efficient and accessible, then it will create a huge difference,” Gadkari emphasised.
He added that while economic viability is crucial, domestic air freight is better suited for the transportation of fuel, vegetables, flowers, and seafood. He recommended that in order to speed up the delivery of supplies like fish and fruit, outdated defence aircraft may be employed. The minister stated that logistics costs would decrease if we could fly a larger volume.
