Gujarat’s Deendayal Port to get a Rs 57,000 crore boost with a Smart Port, shipbuilding cluster, and enhanced global connectivity.
Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kandla, Gujarat, is set for a transformative Rs 57,000 crore upgrade, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways announced on March 21.
Key Developments:
- New Smart Port: A state-of-the-art Smart Port will be developed along a 6-km waterfront, adding 135 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) cargo capacity at an estimated cost of Rs 27,000 crore. It will handle multipurpose and container cargo to meet rising trade demands.
- Mega Shipbuilding Marine Cluster: A Rs 30,000 crore shipbuilding hub featuring a shipyard, marina, fishing harbour, and township will be established to boost India’s marine industry.
Minister’s Vision:
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal emphasised Deendayal Port’s strategic importance in international trade, particularly in supporting the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC).
With its expanded capacity and global connectivity, Deendayal Port is poised to become a key driver of India’s maritime economy.
