Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TEPM) collaborates with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) to establish 5,000 electric vehicle charging stations nationwide, leveraging HPCL’s fuel station network.
Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TEPM) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) to deploy 5,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across India. The partnership capitalises on HPCL’s extensive fuel station network and TEPM’s insights from over 1.2 lakh Tata EVs on Indian roads, strategically locating chargers at spots frequented by Tata EV owners. HPCL will also utilise data on charger usage to enhance customer satisfaction.
The collaboration aims to synergize efforts to boost EV adoption in the country, with plans to introduce a co-branded RFID card for convenient payments during charging. TEPM, commanding a 68 percent market share in electric passenger vehicles, aligns with HPCL’s commitment to sustainability, leveraging its network of over 21,500 fuel stations.
HPCL targets the installation of 5,000 EV charging stations by December 2024, complementing TEPM’s portfolio of four EV products. Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, emphasised the strategic partnership’s role in advancing India’s EV ecosystem and expanding charging infrastructure to support the growing EV customer base.
Debashis Chakraverty, Chief General Manager of Retail Strategy & Business Development at HPCL, highlighted the alliance’s significance in leveraging Tata Motors‘ vehicle base to bolster EV charging infrastructure and alleviate range anxiety among EV customers.
