In a significant drive to enhance railway infrastructure, the Ministry of Railways has earmarked 1,300 railway stations, among them Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, for comprehensive redevelopment and modernisation as part of the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.’ Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced this initiative, revealing that Rs 500 crore is being invested in the modernisation of Gwalior station, where the rapid conversion of the narrow gauge line into broad gauge is underway.
The Railway Minister highlighted that this transformative effort is rooted in preserving the historical essence of the railway stations, aiming to incorporate heritage in redevelopment. Additionally, he disclosed that the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) will soon inspect the broad gauging work between Gwalior and Sumavali. The scheme, known as Amrit Bharat, strives to improve passenger amenities, cafeterias, retail facilities, parking areas, signage, and more.
