Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to expedite the establishment of the Uttar Pradesh Inland Waterways Authority. During a high-level meeting, he emphasised the need to appoint proficient experts as chairman and vice-chairman for the Authority. The state’s transport commissioner will be nominated as the CEO.
Adityanath underscored the importance of coordination between the Authority and the Inland Waterways Authority of India, adding that the former will regulate activities related to inland water transport and tourism. He stressed compliance with environmental and safety regulations and urged for scientific research and technical training in the sector. Adityanath also highlighted the role of the Authority in river channelisation, navigation, and encouraging public-private partnerships.
