Jitin Prasada visits Morocco to strengthen economic and commercial ties.
Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and Electronics & Information Technology Jitin Prasada is on an official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco from August 24 to 25, 2026, to discuss measures aimed at diversifying bilateral trade and improving market access opportunities. During the visit, he will co-chair the 7th Session of the India–Morocco Joint Commission with Omar Hejira, Secretary of State to the Minister of Industry and Trade, in charge of Foreign Trade, Kingdom of Morocco.
The Joint Commission meeting will review existing areas of economic and commercial cooperation and explore opportunities across sectors including trade, investment, industrial cooperation, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, energy, renewable energy, digital transformation, transport and logistics. The discussions will also focus on cooperation in fertilizer production and supply, customs, food safety, healthcare, tourism, education and skills development.
The two countries are expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on food safety cooperation between Morocco’s National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA) and India’s Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The agreement will support information exchange on food safety standards, testing laboratories, analytical methods, import procedures, quality control, sampling, packaging and labelling.
A Cultural Exchange Programme between India and Morocco for 2026–2030 is also expected to be signed during the meeting. The programme will promote cooperation through exchanges of artists and professionals, participation in festivals and exhibitions and collaboration in heritage conservation.
India and Morocco recorded bilateral merchandise trade of around USD 4 billion in 2025. India’s key exports to Morocco include refined petroleum, pharmaceuticals, vehicles, synthetic textiles, food products and spices, while Morocco exports phosphates and fertilizers to India.
