UltraTech pioneers large-scale gypsum transport through National Waterway 1, boosting eco-friendly logistics.
UltraTech Cement has initiated a landmark pilot project, becoming the first Indian cement company to transport mineral gypsum at scale via National Waterway 1, spanning the Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hooghly river system.
The pilot consignment, flagged off by Sarbananda Sonowal at Kolkata’s G.R. Jetty, is being shipped from Haldia port in West Bengal to Gaighat terminal in Patna, destined for UltraTech’s Pataliputra Cement Works in Bihar. Supported by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and Inland & Coastal Shipping, this initiative aligns with the Government of India’s Maritime India Vision 2030 and revised Cargo Movement policy.
Inland waterways reduce carbon emissions and ease congestion on roads and railways. UltraTech’s Managing Director, K.C. Jhanwar, emphasised the company’s commitment to green logistics, aiming for Net Zero emissions by 2050. UltraTech’s pioneering efforts underscore its dedication to sustainable supply chains and innovative transport solutions.
