Asia Airfreight Terminal and Alpha Augmented Services claim top honours at TIACA’s sixth Air Cargo Sustainability Awards in Miami.
The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has announced the winners of its prestigious Air Cargo Sustainability Awards 2024 during its Air Cargo Forum held at the Miami Beach Convention Centre from November 11 to 14. This sixth edition of the awards recognised trailblazers in air cargo sustainability, with Asia Airfreight Terminal and Alpha Augmented Services taking home top honours.
The awards, sponsored by CHAMP Cargosystems, highlight exceptional initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainability in the air cargo industry. These include categories for start-ups or small businesses and corporate or established organizations. Submissions were evaluated by a distinguished panel of five industry leaders based on their societal impact, ease of implementation, innovation, and the “wow” factor.
Winners and Finalists
Asia Airfreight Terminal, the corporate winner, was celebrated for its deployment of autonomous electric tractors in cargo terminal operations, marking a significant step toward eco-friendly logistics.
Alpha Augmented Services, voted as the start-up winner by an audience at the forum, impressed with its innovative solution to reduce costs, CO2 emissions, and waste by optimising ULD (Unit Load Device) packing efficiency.
Other start-up finalists included:
- CargoClub, which proposed a loyalty program encouraging the use of sustainable aviation fuel.
- ReverseMi, which developed a logistics network supporting a circular economy.
Recognition and Rewards
The winners were awarded $10,000 in cash, while the runners-up each received $2,500. The jury comprised Chris McDermott (CHAMP Cargosystems), Liana Coyne (Coyne Airways), Andrea Tang (FIATA), Patricia Varela (IATA), and Ariaen Zimmerman (ASA).
Chris McDermott, CEO of CHAMP Cargosystems, praised the entries, saying, “This year’s Sustainability Awards showcased tremendous innovation, offering solutions that hold great promise for the air cargo industry.”
Glyn Hughes, Director General of TIACA, commended the industry’s dedication, remarking, “Every year, we see more groundbreaking applications for these awards, demonstrating the air cargo sector’s commitment to a sustainable future.”
Steven Polmans, Chairman of TIACA, expressed optimism for the future, stating, “These submissions inspire us to continue driving sustainability in air cargo. We eagerly anticipate the innovations 2025 will bring.”
