Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan hands over PMGSY-IV Batch-II sanction letter to J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar.

Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan handed over the sanction letter for road projects approved under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-IV Batch-II for Jammu & Kashmir to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at a programme held at SKICC, Srinagar, on April 28, 2026. The sanction covers Rs 3,566 crore in rural road projects for the region. On the same occasion, a Mother Sanction of over Rs 4,568.23 crore was released under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) for women’s Self-Help Groups across 24 states and union territories.
Chouhan noted that road project approvals for Jammu & Kashmir across both phases of PMGSY-IV amount to nearly Rs 8,000 crore within a single year, with J&K having been prioritised in both phases. Abdullah called the cumulative approval extraordinary and assured speedy implementation, noting that the region’s mountainous terrain and scattered population make road connectivity particularly critical. Chouhan also announced that a team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research would be deputed to Jammu & Kashmir to assess its climate, soil, water resources and agricultural potential and to prepare a development roadmap.
