Hyundai shifts 26% of domestic volume via rail freight in 2024, cutting 18,352 tonnes of CO2 emissions for greener logistics.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has achieved a significant milestone in sustainable logistics, transporting 26% of its domestic wholesale volumes—1,56,724 units—using rail freight in calendar year 2024. This marks a strategic shift toward eco-friendly logistics, with 100% of vehicle dispatches to the North-East region relying exclusively on rail transport.
Over the four-year period from CY 2021 to CY 2024, HMIL’s cumulative rail freight dispatches reached an impressive 5,37,499 units. By leveraging the extensive network of Indian Railways, including dedicated freight corridors and energy-efficient rolling stock, Hyundai has reduced its environmental impact while enhancing operational efficiency.
The Sriperumbudur dispatch hub in Chennai powers nationwide deliveries, ensuring speed and reliability. Rail freight optimisation has yielded measurable environmental benefits, with 18,352 tonnes of CO2 emissions avoided in CY 2024 alone. Between CY 2021 and CY 2024, a total of 63,452 tonnes of emissions were prevented, reinforcing Hyundai’s commitment to sustainability.
Highlighting this achievement, Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and COO of HMIL, said, “At HMIL, we have been relentless in our pursuit of promoting sustainability in all facets of our operations. By utilising Indian Railways’ extensive rail network, we effectively prevented 18,352 tonnes of CO2 emissions in CY 2024. As the government continues to modernise rail infrastructure, HMIL remains committed to optimising rail freight for long-term emission reductions.”
Hyundai’s logistics strategy reflects its dedication to sustainable operations while addressing India’s unique logistical challenges with innovative and efficient solutions.
