On Sunday, Manohar Lal Khatter, Chief Minister of Haryana, announced his plans for an initiative to start international cargo flights from Maharaja Agrasen Airport, Hisar. The move will enable the state to export fruits and vegetables to Arab countries.
The announcement came while the Chief Minister addressed a gathering at the Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University. Among present were Haryana’s Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, J P Dalal, and the Minister for Urban Local Bodies, Kamal Gupta.
The government has recently formed an Export Promotion Council. It plans to provide the desired support to universities for research to reduce agricultural costs and improve crop quality, thus increasing farmers’ income. The Chief Minister encouraged the agricultural universities to find the best ways to enhance seed quality and achieve a high yield at a minimal cost. Moreover, he stressed the need for optimum water utilisation through micro-irrigation, for which farmers have received up to 85 per cent subsidy.
