Govt aims to reduce logistics costs to 8% with CWC boosting infrastructure and efficiency.

The government plans to cut logistics costs from 13-14% to 8%, aligning with global benchmarks. Addressing CWC’s 69th Foundation Day, Food Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted CWC’s vital role in modernising warehousing and improving efficiency.
CWC, established in 1957, now operates over 700 warehouses with a storage capacity of 148.29 lakh metric tonnes. It has added 120 lakh sq ft of capacity this year and monetised assets worth ₹820 crore across 18 locations.
The government is enhancing supply chains through private sector participation and digital transformation. Joshi emphasised CWC’s role in food security via PMGKAY and PM-AASHA.
Ministers BL Verma and Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya reaffirmed CWC’s commitment to seamless storage. Future plans include developing cold storage under PPP and modernising warehouses in Tier-I and Tier-II cities.
