The 28.9 km 4-lane bypass will ease congestion, improve connectivity, and enhance logistics efficiency.
In a significant infrastructure development aimed at improving regional connectivity and logistics efficiency, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has approved a budget of ₹1,255.59 crore for the construction of the Northern Patiala Bypass. The 28.9 km, 4-lane access-controlled bypass will play a key role in easing traffic congestion, promoting smoother movement of goods, and boosting the local economy.
Announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in a post on ‘X’, the bypass will complete the ring road around Patiala, which has been a long-standing requirement to reduce the heavy traffic load within the city. This project is expected to enhance connectivity between major highways, allowing vehicles—especially those carrying goods—to bypass the city’s crowded routes. The bypass will also help optimise travel time, reduce fuel consumption, and cut down vehicle emissions in the region.
Gadkari’s post emphasised the importance of the bypass in terms of both traffic management and economic development. He stated that the bypass will not only provide relief from urban congestion but also serve as a critical link for the transportation of goods, facilitating more efficient logistics networks. This will lead to faster delivery times, reduced operational costs for logistics companies, and improved supply chain dynamics in the region.
The bypass will feature a 4-lane access-controlled road, ensuring smoother and safer transit for both personal and commercial vehicles. Its construction is expected to enhance connectivity to nearby industrial hubs and major national highways, improving trade routes and boosting economic activities in Patiala and surrounding areas.
This project aligns with the government’s focus on improving infrastructure to support the country’s growing logistics and supply chain sectors. The Northern Patiala Bypass will also support local businesses and industries by creating better access to markets and distribution centers. Once completed, the bypass is expected to significantly improve the movement of goods, not just within Patiala but also across the state of Punjab and neighbouring regions.
With this project, the government continues its efforts to strengthen India’s transportation infrastructure, fostering regional development while improving the efficiency of logistics and goods transportation across the country.
