Under CM Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, Uttar Pradesh is transforming into India’s logistics hub with robust infrastructure and connectivity.
Uttar Pradesh, under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is emerging as a key player in India’s logistics and industrial growth. The state is becoming an essential part of the nation’s economic expansion, boasting world-class infrastructure and unmatched connectivity, making it an attractive investment destination.
With its strategic location and world-class infrastructure, the state is poised for rapid economic growth. As the 4th largest state in India by area, and home to 17 percent of the country’s population, Uttar Pradesh offers a wealth of opportunities for logistics companies, investors, and businesses aiming to capitalise on the growing demand for efficient supply chains.
One of the key drivers of Uttar Pradesh’s success in logistics is its well-developed transport infrastructure. The state is home to the largest railway network in India, with over 16,000 kilometers of tracks, and features the first-ever Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) connecting Meerut and Delhi. UP’s second-largest road network in India, covering more than 400,000 kilometers, is complemented by its vast expressway network, making it an ideal gateway to eastern ports and central India.
The state’s connectivity is further strengthened by five operational international airports, with a sixth under development. This extensive transport network ensures that Uttar Pradesh is well-positioned to become a logistics powerhouse, attracting substantial investment from both domestic and international players. Additionally, UP has been recognised in the “Achievers” category in the Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) Survey 2022, reflecting its leadership in rail infrastructure and its progress in integrating essential data layers on the PM Gati Shakti portal.
Uttar Pradesh has also made significant strides in industrial development, particularly in manufacturing and exports. The state’s merchandise exports reached US$ 16.39 billion in FY21 and US$ 18.83 billion in FY22, highlighting its growing role in India’s trade ecosystem. Moreover, Uttar Pradesh is set to capitalise on government-led initiatives such as the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC). These projects are expected to boost manufacturing and exports, further enhancing the state’s logistics capabilities.
In addition to the DMIC and AKIC, the state is actively developing logistics infrastructure to reduce the cost of logistics, which currently stands at around 14 percent of India’s GDP. With projects such as Multi Modal Logistic Parks, Rapid Rail Transit Systems, and dedicated industrial zones, Uttar Pradesh is positioning itself as a logistics leader. The state government’s proactive approach to attracting investment includes the development of logistics hubs in strategic locations such as Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Barabanki, all of which are set to benefit from improved infrastructure and connectivity.
The Uttar Pradesh government is also focusing on specialised sectors such as warehousing, cold storage, and e-commerce hubs, recognising the growing demand for these services. The rise of e-commerce and digitalisation has created new opportunities for real-time logistics solutions, automation, and even the use of drones for transportation. Uttar Pradesh’s emphasis on robotics and automation in logistics, combined with its commitment to skill development and training, ensures that the state remains competitive in an increasingly technology-driven sector.
With its growing infrastructure, investment-friendly policies, and strong focus on innovation, Uttar Pradesh is poised to become a global logistics and manufacturing hub. The state’s efforts to streamline its logistics ecosystem will help reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enhance its position in the global supply chain, making it an attractive destination for both businesses and investors. As Uttar Pradesh continues to expand its logistics capabilities, it will play a pivotal role in driving India’s economic growth.
