Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by promoting Khadi garments at the Jagaran shop in Naharkatia, Dibrugarh, today. Accompanied by Rameswar Teli, MP (Rajya Sabha), and Taranga Gogoi, MLA (Naharkatia), Sonowal emphasised the significance of supporting local industries.
In his address, Sonowal reflected on Mahatma Gandhi’s unwavering commitment to local craftsmanship, particularly handlooms, urging citizens to embrace products made by Indian weavers. He linked this call to action with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Vocal for Local” initiative, highlighting the importance of buying local to strengthen regional economies.
Sonowal encouraged everyone to participate actively in this movement, stating, “Let us join hands to take this wonderful initiative forward,” reinforcing the message of self-reliance and the need to uplift local artisans and their crafts.
