The 77th NPG meeting evaluated key projects aimed at enhancing multimodal logistics and regional connectivity across India.
The 77th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) under the PM GatiShakti initiative was held in New Delhi. Chaired by Rajeev Singh Thakur, Additional Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the meeting focused on evaluating six crucial infrastructure projects from the Ministries of Railways, Road Transport and Highways, Civil Aviation, and Ports, Shipping, and Waterways. These projects were assessed for their alignment with the integrated planning principles outlined in the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan.
Key projects evaluated:
- Hazira-Gothangam New Rail Line in Gujarat: A 36.35 km Broad Gauge Double Line project aimed at enhancing connectivity to Hazira port and supporting regional economic development by shifting cargo from road to rail.
- Bilasipara-Guwahati Road in Assam: upgrading a 44.56 km stretch of NH-17 to 4 lanes, linking Assam to key regions and infrastructure, boosting economic activities, and reducing congestion.
- Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Nashik, Maharashtra: A 109.97-acre greenfield project integrating road and rail transport to enhance logistics efficiency and support regional industries.
- New Civil Enclave at Bihta Airport, Patna, Bihar: Developing a new terminal to handle 5 million passengers annually, addressing capacity constraints at Patna Airport, and improving regional connectivity.
- New Civil Enclave at Bagdogra Airport, Siliguri, West Bengal: Expanding Bagdogra Airport with a new terminal to serve 10 million passengers annually is crucial for connectivity in the north-eastern region.
- International Container Transshipment Port at Galathea Bay, Andaman & Nicobar: A Rs. 44,313 crore project to develop a port at Galathea Bay, enhancing India’s maritime trade competitiveness and boosting the region’s economy.
These projects, evaluated under the principles of integrated multimodal infrastructure development, are expected to significantly contribute to nation-building by enhancing connectivity, providing socio-economic benefits, and improving the ease of living in the respective regions.
