The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways will host the next Chintan Shivir on May 21 and 22, 2023, in Munnar. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will open the two-day meeting and discuss the goals for each port for the upcoming six months, the status of various projects at major ports that must be finished by October, ATRs (action taken reports) on the accomplishment of the goals set during previous Chintan Shivirs, and other topics.
Additionally, there will be a private discussion between the Minister and the heads of the main ports to exchange ideas; seminars on lighthouse tourism; and discussions about India’s aspirations to become a key participant in shipbuilding by increasing its tonnage.
The event on May 22 will be centred on refining port call procedures, enhancing the efficiency of cargo processing by large ports, and system upgrades. Smart Ports (digitalization and standardisation of all port documentation and processes in significant ports to ensure seamless vessel operation)
Sessions on interior rivers and coastal shipping will also be helpful for growing freight flow.
