India and Denmark strengthen maritime cooperation through an MoU, focussing on quality shipping, green tech, port modernisation, and training.
India and Denmark have expanded their maritime cooperation under the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership, focussing on sustainable practices such as quality shipping, maritime training, piracy control, and green maritime technology. This collaboration, led by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Denmark’s Minister Morten Bødskov, aims to advance India’s port infrastructure and shipping capabilities.
A key development is the revision of the 2019 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2022, which includes the establishment of a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in India. The partnership also focusses on joint projects developing hydrogen and ammonia-based fuels for ships, aligning with India’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 to decarbonise ports. Denmark’s expertise in offshore wind energy and port digitalisation will support India’s goal of achieving a carbon-neutral maritime industry.
As part of the Joint Action Plan on Green Strategic Partnership (2021-2026), the collaboration includes modernising ports, digitalisation, automation, cybersecurity, and upgrading Indian seafarer programs to meet international standards. Denmark’s global leadership in green maritime technologies will play a pivotal role in realising India’s Maritime Vision 2030.
