China’s military, under the Southern Theater Command, is set to conduct routine patrols in the South China Sea, emphasising high-alert measures to safeguard national sovereignty and maritime rights.
The patrols aim to deter activities causing disruptions and “hot spots” in the region, particularly addressing rising tensions with the Philippines.
Ongoing maritime confrontations between China and the Philippines have intensified, with accusations traded between both nations. Last week, the Philippines denied provoking conflict, countering China’s claims of territorial encroachment.
China has repeatedly cautioned the Philippines against breaching areas it considers its own in the South China Sea, accusing Manila of relying on U.S. support to provoke China. The announced patrols signal China’s firm stance amid heightened regional discord.
