Akasa Air has expanded its fleet to 22 aircraft, including 21 Boeing 737 MAX 8 and one Boeing 737 MAX 8 200. The recent additions align with reports hinting at the airline’s potential order for 150 Boeing 737 MAX narrowbody planes.
The milestone of incorporating the 20th aircraft in August 2023 enabled Akasa Air to qualify for international flights under Indian regulations, which mandate a minimum fleet size of 20 aircraft for international eligibility.
Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, emphasised the airline’s significant growth and expressed plans for international expansion into Southeast Asia, West Asia, CIS countries, East Africa, Malé (Maldives), Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and other destinations reachable within six hours.
With a total order book of 76 Max aircraft from Boeing, Akasa Air aims to have 26-27 planes from this order by March 2024. Akasa Air currently holds a 4.2 percent domestic market share as of November 2023, having served over 6.3 million passengers across 17 cities in India, including major hubs like Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Delhi.
