Modern telematics and fleet management tools are enabling lift truck owners to precisely monitor and measure truck data, supporting informed operational decisions that improve maintenance efficiency, reduce energy costs and maximise operator productivity, according to Hyster. The company’s Tracker telemetry system is designed to monitor fleet utilisation, impacts, idle time and maintenance, empowering fleet managers to make informed decisions regarding fleet size, composition and use. Key features include fault code tracking, impact sensing and automated maintenance alerts, which help reduce unplanned downtime, extend asset life and support compliance with local safety regulations.
The Hyster Tracker system captures several categories of operational data to support fleet management. Fault code logging allows fleet managers to discern the severity of faults and respond accordingly, while preventative maintenance tracking monitors service history based on custom parameters. Impact sensing tracks and measures instances where impacts exceed a preset force benchmark and sends real-time alerts including time of impact, direction, force, vehicle identification and operator identification. GPS integration identifies the location of lift trucks, monitors travel patterns and provides data on areas prone to congestion. Access control prevents unauthorised lift truck operation by requiring operator authentication, while automatic shutdown functionality reduces unnecessary idling and supports energy conservation. Hyster said integrating a telemetry system into a lift truck fleet, whether large or small, could be done efficiently by working with an expert to assess and outfit the fleet according to the specific needs of the operation.
