Firefly Green Fuels, led by CEO James Hygate, harnessed the abundance of sewage as a low-value feedstock for their innovative jet fuel. Independent tests by international aviation regulators revealed its chemical similarity to standard fossil jet fuel, with a remarkable 90 percent lower carbon footprint.

Partnering with Cranfield University, the company aims to contribute to the aviation industry’s quest for greener alternatives. While electric planes and hydrogen-electric flights are on the horizon, Firefly’s fossil-free fuel provides an immediate eco-friendly solution.
The UK Department of Transport has granted a £2 million research fund to support further exploration. Despite initial skepticism, the initiative could potentially meet a significant portion of the aviation industry’s sustainable fuel requirements, offering a global opportunity for this sewage-based breakthrough.
