Indian Railways has approved a Rs 274 crore project to replace relay-based interlocking with advanced Electronic Interlocking systems at 20 locations in Malda Division of Eastern Railway, covering 18 stations and 2 Intermediate Block Signalling locations on High Utilisation Network routes.
Electronic Interlocking is a fail-safe technology that automates route setting and signalling functions, substantially reducing equipment failures and human error while improving operational flexibility and punctuality. The upgraded system will also provide readiness for future technologies including Kavach. The approval forms part of Indian Railways’ broader mission to modernise signalling infrastructure across the national network.
