Amazon India to set up rest points for delivery associates in major cities.
Amazon India has announced the launch of Project Ashray, a new initiative aimed at supporting the well-being of delivery associates by setting up rest points across key cities like Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. In collaboration with Udyasa Foundation, this initiative underscores Amazon’s commitment to enhancing the working conditions for delivery associates across the country.
The first Ashray centre was inaugurated in Gurugram on August 23 by Michiko Miyamoto, India Country Director for the International Labour Organisation. Initially, Amazon plans to establish five pilot centres at high-traffic locations in the aforementioned cities. These centres, accessible to delivery associates across the e-commerce ecosystem, will offer essential amenities such as washrooms, seating, drinking water, and charging stations.
Each Ashray centre can accommodate up to 15 people at a time and will be operational from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The facilities, including parking spaces, will be free to use for up to 30 minutes per visit. Locations of the Ashray centres will be added to Google Maps for easy access.
Abhinav Singh, Vice President-Operations at Amazon India, emphasised the importance of Project Ashray in enhancing the on-road experience for delivery partners. This initiative complements other Amazon programmes, such as Sushruta for health and wellness and the Pratidhi scholarship for driver associates’ children.
