Air India and Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) join hands to boost Bengaluru’s status as a premier aviation hub, focusing on enhancing connectivity and passenger experience.
Air India and Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) have signed a strategic agreement aimed at elevating Bengaluru’s position as a significant aviation hub in southern India. The collaboration, which spans over the next five years, seeks to enhance international connectivity, operational efficiency, and passenger satisfaction.
The partnership entails strengthening Air India’s presence at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (KIAB or BLR airport), by expanding its network and establishing a dedicated domestic lounge for premium and frequent travellers of Tata Group airlines – Air India and Vistara. Additionally, Air India has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Government of Karnataka to establish comprehensive Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities at BLR airport.
Campbell Wilson, Air India’s Managing Director and CEO, emphasised the significance of airline-airport synergy in enhancing customer experience and operational efficiency. He expressed enthusiasm about bolstering Air India’s presence in Bengaluru and expanding global connectivity from southern India.
Speaking at the Skift India Summit in Delhi, Wilson highlighted the necessity for Air India to operate multiple hubs within the country to cater to the diverse market demands. Hari Marar, Managing Director, and CEO of Bangalore International Airport, echoed this sentiment, emphasising BLR Airport’s commitment to becoming the primary international gateway in Southern and Central India.
