IndiGo reports record cargo volumes for 2025 and announces new MRO infrastructure to boost domestic self-reliance.

In a year defined by significant international expansion and infrastructure development, the nation’s largest carrier has concluded 2025 by reinforcing its position as a major player in the global logistics and aviation ecosystem. The airline reported a robust performance in its freight division, expecting to have transported more than 55,000 tonnes of cargo by the end of the calendar year.
The carrier’s move into long-haul operations has significantly increased its belly-hold capacity for international freight. During 2025, the airline launched 30 new international routes and 10 new destinations, including direct connections to Manchester, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and London. These routes were made possible through the induction of wide-body Boeing 787-9 aircraft, providing the logistics sector with enhanced direct air-linkage between India and Europe.
Looking forward to 23 January 2026, the airline is set to debut the Airbus A321XLR on a new route to Athens. This development is expected to unlock further potential for medium-to-long-haul cargo markets, offering more efficient transport solutions for time-sensitive exports.
A pivotal development for the Indian aviation supply chain was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Bangalore International Airport. The agreement outlines the construction of world-class Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) infrastructure. This facility is designed to foster a self-reliant aviation ecosystem, reducing dependency on external markets and ensuring higher operational readiness for the fleet.
Operating an average of over 2,200 flights daily, the carrier has maintained a vast domestic and international network that now totals 139 destinations. To support this massive scale, the airline doubled its previous order for Airbus A350-900 wide-body aircraft to a total of 60 units. This long-term fleet strategy signals a strong confidence in the sustained growth of high-capacity international trade and transit from India.
Pieter Elbers, the Chief Executive Officer, noted that 2025 represented a period of executing large-scale strategies to transform the carrier into a global entity. He emphasised that progress has been made across all sectors, specifically highlighting improvements in cargo operations, MRO development, and the strengthening of India’s role as a global aviation hub.
By the close of 2025, the airline’s network reached 97 domestic and 42 international destinations. These milestones, coupled with the hosting of the IATA Annual General Meeting in Delhi, underscore the growing importance of the Indian market in the global logistics and transport hierarchy.
