Odisha CM announces a ₹6,000 cr six-lane Berhampur–Jeypore corridor, new city roads, food streets, and 45,000 teacher posts.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on December 17, unveiled a major infrastructure push, announcing that the Berhampur–Jeypore road will be transformed into a six-lane highway at an investment of ₹6,000 crore. Speaking at the annual function of Saraswati Shishu Vidyamandira in Nilakantha Nagar, he said the upgraded stretch would act as a powerful economic corridor for southern Odisha.
Majhi emphasised that the state government is working closely with the Centre to strengthen connectivity across Odisha, linking the eastern and southern belts with the northern and western regions.
Calling Berhampur the “heart of southern Odisha”, the CM revealed plans to build 10 major roads within the city and nearby areas, backed by an outlay of ₹52.17 crore. He also directed officials to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for developing a Greater Berhampur, which will include adjoining panchayats.
In a move to boost local commerce and urban vibrancy, Majhi announced the creation of dedicated food streets across areas under the Berhampur Municipal Corporation.
On the education front, the CM highlighted the government’s focus on strengthening teaching capacity. To address the shortage of educators, Odisha will create 45,000 new teacher posts over the next three years. Additionally, from the next academic year, free textbooks will be provided to all students up to Class 10.
