The Union Cabinet has approved a 32-km road connecting the Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra to NH-48, enhancing port accessibility.
The Union Cabinet has given the green light for a 32-kilometer road linking the proposed Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra’s Palghar district to National Highway 48. The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) announced the approval on Tuesday.
The National Highways Authority of India’s Land Acquisition Committee (NHAI-LAC) has sanctioned the road’s development and authorised the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to proceed with necessary decisions. The government’s gazette notification on August 12 declared the road as a national highway.
JNPA Chairman Unmesh Sharad Wagh emphasised the road’s importance for transporting materials to the port, noting that local roads are inadequate for heavy transport. Following the notification, the NHAI will initiate land acquisition and invite tenders for a 20-km two-lane road. The Vadhvan Port project, approved in June, is expected to begin construction post-monsoon, once road connectivity is secured.
