Udupi Cochin Shipyard clinches contract with Wilson ASA for designing and building 6300 TDW dry cargo vessels.
Udupi Cochin Shipyard (UCSL), a fully owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard (CSL), has secured a significant international order from Wilson ASA, Norway. This contract involves the design and construction of four 6300 TDW dry cargo vessels.
Additionally, an agreement has been made for four more vessels of the same type, set to be formalised by September 19, 2024. This follows a previous order from June 2023 for six 3800 TDW dry cargo vessels, which are currently in advanced stages of construction at the Udupi yard in Karnataka.
The new vessels, designed by Conoship International, Netherlands, will be 100 meters long with a deadweight of 6300 metric tonnes at a draft of 6.5 meters. These eco-friendly, diesel-electric ships are intended for transporting general cargo in European coastal waters. The entire project, encompassing eight vessels, is valued at approximately ₹1,100 crore and is scheduled for completion by September 2028.
