From Hungary to 100 countries, Maruti Suzuki achieves fastest million in export history, targeting 7.5 lakh units by 2030.
Maruti Suzuki has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian automobile manufacturer to export 3 million vehicles. The landmark vehicle was part of a shipment of 1,053 units from Gujarat’s Pipavav port, comprising popular models like Celerio, Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Ciaz, Dzire, and S-Presso.
Maruti Suzuki began its export journey in 1986, with its first large consignment of 500 units shipped to Hungary in 1987. The company reached its first million exports in 2012-13, the second million in 2020-21, and has now achieved the fastest million in just 3 years and 9 months.
Speaking on this achievement, Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, highlighted how this milestone reflects India’s excellence in automobile manufacturing and aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. He emphasised Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to deep localisation and its goal to increase exports to 7.5 lakh units annually by 2030-31. The company has seen significant growth, with exports tripling in the past four years and a 17.4 percent year-on-year rise in the current fiscal, exporting 181,444 units between April and October 2024.
Currently, Maruti Suzuki exports 17 models to nearly 100 countries, with top markets including Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Its most popular export models include Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Dzire, and S-Presso. The company commands 40 percent of India’s passenger vehicle export market and recorded its highest-ever monthly exports of 33,168 units in October 2024. This achievement cements Maruti Suzuki’s position as a leader in the global automotive industry while driving India’s prominence on the international stage.
