JNPA awards Rs 284 crore project to develop a state-of-the-art agro processing facility on 27 acres within the port.
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), recognised as India’s Best Performing Port, has issued the Letter of Award (LoA) to Trident Agrocom Exports and Man Infraconstruction (consortium) for the development of an export-import cum domestic agriculture commodity-based processing and storage facility. The project, worth approximately ₹284 crore, will be developed on a sprawling 27-acre land parcel within the port complex.
Speaking about the initiative, Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairman of JNPA, said, “This project will enhance India’s agricultural logistics capabilities and support the growth of both domestic and international agro-trade. With the new facility, JNPA is playing a critical role in strengthening India’s agricultural export infrastructure. In the new year, our focus will be on accelerating growth and development, ensuring fast-paced work for timely completion of key projects.”
Once operational, the facility is projected to handle approximately 1.2 million tonnes of cargo annually. It will significantly contribute to India’s agro-trade by improving the processing, storage, and transportation infrastructure for agricultural commodities.
This one-of-a-kind facility at JNPA is designed to offer comprehensive services, including processing, sorting, packing, and laboratory facilities, while ensuring compliance with food safety and trade regulations. It will not only cater to agricultural commodities from Maharashtra but also from other states like Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, providing a substantial boost to the region’s agribusiness ecosystem.
The project received approval from the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, in July last year. JNPA’s initiative underlines its commitment to positioning India as a global leader in agricultural exports and logistics efficiency.
