Indian Railways gears up for its best-ever performance in freight, revenue, and track laying in FY 2023–24, with 1500 MT of freight loading reached.
Indian Railways is poised to achieve remarkable milestones in its performance for the financial year 2023–24. As per initial data, it has surpassed 1500 million tonnes in originating freight loading on March 15, 2024. This exceeds the previous record of 1512 million tonnes in FY 2022–23.
The total revenue of Indian Railways has reached Rs 2.40 lakh crores as of now, compared to Rs 2.23 lakh crores at the same time last year, marking a significant increase of Rs 17,000 crores. However, total expenditure for the current fiscal year stands at Rs 2.26 lakh crores.
Moreover, the number of passengers travelling via Indian Railways during FY 2023–24 has risen to 648 crores, up by 52 crores from the previous fiscal year.
In terms of infrastructure, Indian Railways has laid 5100 kilometres of new tracks so far in FY 2023–24, averaging more than 14 kilometres per day. These achievements signal a positive trajectory for the railway sector in India, demonstrating its resilience and capacity for growth.
