India and South Africa explore deeper trade and investment ties during JWGTI meet in Pretoria on 22-23 April 2025.

A nine-member Indian delegation visited Pretoria, South Africa, for the 2nd session of the India-South Africa Joint Working Group on Trade and Investment (JWGTI), held from April 22–23, 2025. The dialogue saw constructive discussions in a cordial atmosphere, focusing on strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties.
The meeting was co-chaired by Malose Letsoalo from South Africa’s Department of Trade, Industry and Competition and Priya Nair from India’s Department of Commerce. The Indian delegation included officials from the High Commission, DPIIT, and the Ministry of Agriculture.
Key areas of cooperation discussed included pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture, MSMEs, and jewellery manufacturing. Both sides explored initiatives such as reviving the CEO Forum, improving market access for agricultural goods, mutual recognition of standards, and developing fast payment and local currency settlement systems.
India-South Africa bilateral trade reached USD 19.25 billion in 2023–24, with Indian investments exceeding USD 1.3 billion. The JWGTI reaffirmed the commitment to deepen cooperation and leverage untapped potential across multiple sectors, strengthening the strategic and economic partnership between the two nations.
