Navi Mumbai International Airport received the Antonov An-124 ‘Ruslan’, one of the world’s largest production cargo aircraft. The arrival highlights the airport’s capability to handle oversized cargo and specialised freighter operations.
Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) welcomed the Antonov An-124 ‘Ruslan’, one of the world’s largest production cargo aircraft and a Code F wide-bodied freighter. The aircraft arrived from Abu Dhabi carrying approximately 46 tonnes of cargo, demonstrating the airport’s ability to accommodate large and specialised cargo aircraft.
Designed to transport heavy and oversized freight, the Antonov An-124 features a distinctive front-loading system, with its nose opening to enable the loading and unloading of large consignments. The aircraft is widely used for transporting project cargo, industrial equipment and other out-of-gauge shipments.
According to NMIA, the successful handling of the An-124 underscores the airport’s readiness to support complex cargo operations and reinforces its capability to serve as a key hub for specialised air freight movements.
