Indian and Iranian foreign ministers discuss trade, regional security, and Chabahar port collaboration at the Muscat summit.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the sidelines of the 8th Indian Ocean Conference in Muscat, emphasising the importance of ongoing diplomatic consultations. He highlighted the successful 19th round of India-Iran political discussions held in New Delhi in January and reiterated Tehran’s commitment to strengthening regional ties.
The leaders discussed expanding cooperation in political, economic, and cultural domains while addressing regional issues, including Afghanistan. Both expressed optimism about the conference’s role in fostering stronger partnerships among Indian Ocean nations.
A key topic was the 10-year India-Iran agreement on the Chabahar port. Under the deal, India will invest $120 million in equipment and $250 million in transport infrastructure, securing operational rights for parts of the Shahid Beheshti terminal. This collaboration is set to boost trade and connectivity, reinforcing strategic ties between the two nations.
