India and Germany plan to deepen defence ties, focusing on Indo-Pacific security.
In a joint statement after the Modi-Scholz meeting, India and Germany highlighted the strategic significance of the Indo-Pacific in ensuring global prosperity, security, and tackling shared challenges. Both countries stressed the need for freedom of navigation and unobstructed maritime routes, adhering to International Law across all maritime areas, including the Indo-Pacific.
The two governments expressed their intent to sign a Memorandum of Arrangement for mutual logistics support between their armed forces, aiming to strengthen defence and security cooperation. This pact will facilitate shared logistics, especially within the Indo-Pacific region.
To further this cooperation, Germany will deploy a permanent Liaison Officer at the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) in Gurugram, India, enhancing maritime traffic monitoring capabilities across the Indian Ocean.
