Navi Mumbai Airport milestone as IAF C-295 lands, marking a key phase in its development.
In a major development for Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-295 aircraft successfully landed on the South runway, marking a crucial milestone in the airport’s progress. The IAF C-295, a large tactical airlifter, made the first official landing at the airport, which has been under development by the Adani Group since August 2021. The airport is expected to become operational by early 2025.
Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings, expressed pride in the progress, acknowledging the support of the Maharashtra government, CIDCO, and the Airports Authority of India. He emphasised the airport’s significance in the region’s growth, positioning it as a global travel hub.
This milestone is vital in testing the airport’s runway, taxiways, air traffic control systems, and operational readiness. The airport, designed to handle 90 million passengers annually, will also cater to 800,000 tonnes of cargo in its initial phase. Terminal 1 alone is expected to serve 20 million passengers per year.
