DP World’s SARAL 2 sets a new benchmark, revolutionising daily rail freight between Chennai and NCR, aligning with sustainability goals.
DP World, a global leader in end-to-end supply chain solutions, introduces SARAL 2, a pioneering multimodal daily rail freight service connecting Chennai to the National Capital Region (NCR). This venture, an extension of the SARAL initiative launched in November 2023, boasts a substantial capacity of 500 TEUs per week.
SARAL 2 integrates coastal, rail, and truck operations, showcasing DP World’s commitment to reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and optimising supply chain efficiencies. Aligned with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, SARAL 2 offers seamless multimodal connectivity to various industry clusters in the region, fostering enhanced logistics.
Adhendru Jain, VP of Rail and Inland Terminals at DP World Subcontinent, emphasizes the service’s positive impact on solar industries, commodities, FMCG, domestic retail, and EXIM businesses. Notably, SARAL 2 achieves a substantial ~70 percent reduction in CO2 emissions compared to road transportation, marking a significant stride in sustainable logistics.
DP World plans to provide cargo owners with a sustainability profile, highlighting the environmental benefits realised by each SARAL service user. SARAL 2 stands as a testament to DP World’s ongoing commitment to streamlining logistics, ensuring efficient, reliable, and sustainable operations between Chennai and the NCR region.
