In a landmark move under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, Cochin Shipyard is set to construct India’s inaugural green tugs for Adani Harbour Services.
This endeavour aligns with the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways’ Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP). The 62-ton bollard pull Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) tugs, designed by Robert Allan, aim for eco-friendly harbour towing and ship assist in Indian ports.
Adani’s acquisition of Ocean Sparkle, the initial buyer of these tugs, solidifies its position as India’s premier marine services operator. This initiative underscores a significant stride toward sustainable maritime practices in India.
