Canada has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at establishing a groundbreaking green shipping corridor, connecting its West Coast, including ports like Prince Rupert, Vancouver, and Edmonton, to major ports in the United Arab Emirates, Korea, and Japan.
Announced by Pablo Rodriguez, the Minister of Transport, during COP28, the West Green Shipping Corridor plans to leverage its geographical advantage, deploying low carbon technologies, sprinter ships with innovative zero-emission tech, and clean fuels produced domestically.
The international collaboration involves indigenous groups, governments, shippers, ports, and clean tech companies, highlighting a collective effort for a sustainable maritime future.
This move builds on Canada’s Green Shipping Corridors Framework and the recent launch of the Green Shipping Corridor Program, reinforcing the commitment to decarbonisation and global competitiveness in the maritime sector.
