Adani Ports collaborates with Cochin Shipyard to build eight tugs, reinforcing the Make in India initiative.
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone has announced a collaboration with Cochin Shipyard to construct eight cutting-edge harbour tugs. The initiative supports the government’s Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat programs by prioritising local manufacturing and boosting self-reliance in the maritime sector.
The contract, valued at approximately ₹450 crore, outlines deliveries starting in December 2026 and concluding by May 2028. These advanced tugs aim to enhance operational safety and efficiency across Indian ports.
Ashwani Gupta, Director and CEO of Adani Ports, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating that it underscores confidence in India’s manufacturing capabilities while aligning with international safety and efficiency benchmarks.
Previously, Adani Ports commissioned two ASD tugs from Cochin Shipyard, delivered ahead of schedule. With three more under construction, this brings their total order to 13, aimed at modernising their fleet for reliable and efficient maritime services.
