The Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), located in Bhubaneswar, is prepared to resume handling international cargo now that it has direct flights to Dubai, Singapore, and Bangkok. In order to increase the state’s exports, reports claim that BPIA will resume its international cargo handling operations in September. To make exporting goods to other countries easier, the airport is upgrading its infrastructure. The domestic air cargo terminal will still be nearby where the international cargo terminal was previously located. According to reports, the international air cargo terminal is under the custody of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) city office.
Following the Covid-19 pandemic, international cargo operations that had begun in 2017 were suspended, and direct flight service between Bhubaneswar and Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok was discontinued in 2019. The sources stated that “the cargo terminal is now preparing for a relaunch of the operations.”
