Union Minister, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia has inspected the site for Asia’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone in Gwalior, which is expected to attract Rs5,500 crore in investment and create over 18,000 jobs.
Gwalior is set to become the site of Asia’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone, with Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia inspecting the proposed site at Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Counter Magnet City in Gwalior alongside the Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications and other senior officials. The proposed TMZ will be established with an investment of approximately Rs5,500 crore and is expected to create over 18,000 direct employment opportunities across 24 to 25 telecom manufacturing units. Approximately 170 acres have been identified for the first phase, comprising over 90 acres in SADA and over 70 acres in the IT Park. Investor interest has exceeded available land, with Scindia announcing that additional land will be identified for expansion.
An MoU for establishing the TMZ was signed in July 2026 between the Department of Telecommunications and the Government of Madhya Pradesh under Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. Subsequent investor roadshows in Delhi and Mumbai in August yielded investment commitments of approximately Rs3,500 crore and Rs2,000 crore respectively, with a combined employment potential of around 18,000 jobs. Twenty-four companies have since initiated the application process for setting up units in the TMZ. The Department of Telecommunications has also proposed a Common Testing Lab package of approximately Rs500 crore. Scindia highlighted Gwalior’s connectivity strengths including its location on major railway routes, the approximately 120-kilometre Agra-Gwalior High-Speed Corridor under development and an airport developed at a cost of approximately Rs650 crore in 16 months. The city also produces approximately 25,000 engineering graduates annually. Scindia announced he would travel to Bengaluru on September 22 for a roadshow with telecom sector investors.
