The Nifty 50 rose 0.51 per cent and the Sensex gained 0.76 per cent as sustained foreign inflows offset the global rout.

Indian shares advanced on Friday as signs of sustained foreign inflows and a lack of major AI exposure insulated stocks in Asia’s third-largest economy from a global stock rout. By 10:33 a.m. IST, the Nifty 50 rose 0.51 per cent to 24,662.80, while the Sensex added 0.76 per cent to 79,917.60. Asian markets followed Wall Street lower, with South Korea’s Kospi down 8 per cent and Japan’s Nikkei falling 5 per cent.
Foreign institutional investors bought stocks worth about 150 billion rupees ($1.6 billion) on Thursday, their biggest single-day net purchase in nearly six years, as investors rotated out of AI-linked trades globally. The Nifty 50 and Sensex rose 2.4 per cent and 2.6 per cent on Thursday after Brent crude fell below $100 a barrel. The benchmarks are down 5.7 per cent and 6.2 per cent in 2026 so far, after gaining 7 per cent and 7.4 per cent in October.
Indian IT companies rallied, with the Nifty IT index gaining 1.3 per cent. Shahzad Madon, managing director and CEO at TCG AMC, said the pressure from higher energy prices, the AI trade, currency weakness and foreign outflows is easing.
