Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu sets 2027 deadline for Bengaluru–Vijayawada corridor to slash freight costs and link major ports.

Andhra Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has instructed authorities to ensure the Bengaluru–Vijayawada economic corridor is finished by 2027. During a high-level review with the National Highways Authority of India and state infrastructure departments, a broader objective was established to conclude national highway works valued at ₹1.40 lakh crore across Andhra Pradesh by 2029.
The administration is prioritising the expansion of the road network to decrease freight expenses and improve logistics. A primary focus involves linking major motorways with key maritime hubs, specifically the ports at Moolapeta, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Machilipatnam, Ramayapatnam, and Krishnapatnam. This strategy aims to facilitate the seamless movement of goods from inland regions and neighbouring states.
Current reports indicate that infrastructure projects worth ₹42,194 crore are already in progress. The Chief Minister mandated that these active works be finalised by December 2027, alongside the completion of the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada route. Additionally, plans are being fast-tracked for several greenfield expressways, including routes connecting Kharagpur to Amaravati and Nagpur to Machilipatnam.
To improve durability and efficiency, the state is adopting modern construction technologies such as Danish fibre, nano-concrete, and bitumen mixed with recycled plastic. Authorities were also tasked with implementing a comprehensive maintenance strategy for 45,000 kilometres of state and district roads to ensure they remain free of defects through the use of advanced monitoring systems.
