Government highlights investment, jobs and export growth under PLI.
The Government has said that the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI) has supported investment, capacity expansion and employment in the food processing sector. Replying to a question in Parliament, the Government said the scheme, with an approved outlay of ₹10,900 crore for the period FY 2021-22 to FY 2026-27, currently covers 163 applications from 127 companies, including 69 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), across 212 locations in 22 States. As of June 2026, incentives amounting to ₹3,271.44 crore had been disbursed. According to the Government, approved applicants have invested ₹9,207 crore against a committed investment of ₹7,722 crore, creating food processing capacity of 34 lakh metric tonnes per annum and generating approximately 3.35 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities. Sales of PLI-supported products increased from ₹58,758 crore in FY 2019-20 to ₹1,08,854 crore in FY 2025-26.
The Government also highlighted other initiatives to support the food processing sector. It said the Mega Food Park Scheme, implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana, was discontinued with effect from April 1, 2021, after approving 41 Mega Food Parks across 25 States, of which 25 are operational. In addition, the Prime Minister Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme provides financial, technical and business support for the establishment and upgradation of micro food processing enterprises through credit-linked capital subsidy, common infrastructure, branding and marketing assistance, and entrepreneurship development programmes. The Government added that the Branding and Marketing component under PLISFPI supports the promotion of Indian food products in overseas markets through financial incentives for eligible expenditure.
